Black Angus Sires

We added a second breed to our operation in 1991. Black Angus was the natural choice because Herefords and Angus compliment each other and are the two most widely used maternal breeds in the industry. Both can be successfully bred to their own kind; are the base for most other cross-breeding programs; and make an exceptional cross together. The length, femininity, tight udders with small teats and overall capacity of the herd is something all cow men can appreciate.

We’ve developed a strain of Angus which thrive in our high altitude and harsh environment. Our foundation cows were predominantly AAR New Trend breeding and have made a good base on which to develop such a herd. We’ve line-bred the cows with a small bit of the low PAP genetics of EXT and a specific low PAP Travelodge line.  Recently, we added a small shot of the proven low PAP of Cole Creek Cedar Ridge IV.

The cows are more rugged, thicker and have lower PAP scores than in 1991. They are less fragile, have a greater capacity and increased longevity. The cattle are three dimensional and match our Herefords in terms of muscle. The down side to being a closed herd is that the cattle’s figures are flat and don’t reflect how they will perform, but gives customers more hybrid vigor when introduced into their herds.
